FULL STORY: In a way, this is like someone breaking into a police station because they left and forgot to lock the front door. Only even worse.
A 10-month-old, state-of-the-art fire station in Germany burned to the ground yesterday . . . because it caught on fire, and there weren’t any smoke detectors.
The city decided not to install fire alarms in the station, and there’s apparently no code that requires that there. Maybe they just figured it would be okay since there are FIREFIGHTERS around 24/7. That said, it’s unclear if there were any firefighters there when the fire started.
The fire inspector was “extremely” upset about it, and told the media, “This is every firefighter’s nightmare. No one ever wants to have to put out their own fire station.” No . . . that’s not good.
Thankfully, no one was injured. The cause hasn’t been confirmed, but it might have been a battery charger that overheated. 170 firefighters fought the blaze . . . but it was a near total loss. Damages exceeded $22 MILLION.
